Hadas Steiner, assistant professor of architecture, has been
awarded a doctorate from MIT. Her dissertation was entitled "Bathrooms,
Bubbles and Systems: Archigram and the Landscapes of Transience."
Joseph Atkinson, professor of civil, structural and environmental
engineering and director of the Great Lakes Program, has co-authored
a new book, "Environmental Fluid Mechanics," published by
Marcel Dekker, Inc. Each chapter contains practical applications of
modern fluid mechanics relevant to environmental quality, contaminant
transport, global fluid flows and water quality modeling, as well as
current references, useful problems and solution sets, and supplemental
reading lists. Atkinson's co-author is Hillel Rubin, a professor at
Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa.
Beth Holleran, project coordinator on the Research Institute
on Addictions' "Harm Reduction Approach to Reducing DWI Recidivism"
study being conducted by Thomas H. Nochajski, RIA research scientist,
was named to the "40 Under Forty Honor Roll" for 2001 by Business
First of Buffalo. The honor roll recognizes individuals under the age
of 40 who exemplify professional excellence and community involvement.
WBFO 88.7 FM, the National Public Radio affiliate operated by
UB, was named the "best radio station" in Artvoice's 2001
rankings. WBFO was lauded for "bringing welcome relief. No sensory
overload here, folks, just fine music and thoughtful dialogue..."
Georg Iggers, SUNY Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Department
of History, will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of
Richmond during a ceremony in October. Iggers received a bachelor's
degree in romance languages and literatures from the university in 1944.
Jeff Morley, clinical associate professor of restorative dentistry,
has received a 2001 Award for Outstanding Contribution to Cosmetic Dentistry
from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). The award recognizes
Morley's 25 years of dedication to advancing the field of cosmetic dentistry,
in both practice and communication.
