Men's

Toledo 54, UB 42
UB 87, Marshall 62

UB could not have picked a better time to play its best game of the season. The Bulls shot 50 percent from the field and five players scored in double figures as UB defeated Marshall, 87-62, in front of 2,751 fans Saturday night in Alumni Arena.

The victory was the Bulls' seventh Mid-American Conference win of the season and gave them a season sweep over Marshall—UB's first series sweep since joining the MAC in 1998.

Athletes of the Week

Turner Battle of the men's basketball team had a career night in leading the Bulls to an 87-62 win over Marshall. Battle scored a career-high 17 points and came close to recording a triple-double, adding nine rebounds and eight assists. Battle also added five points and five rebounds earlier in the week against Toledo.

Erin Lawrenson of the women's basketball team came off the bench to score a career-high 18 points on six three-pointers, including four in the second half, in UB's 81-54 loss at Kent State. Lawrenson is among the Mid-American Conference leaders in three-pointers per game at 1.35, ranking 14th in the statistic.

UB broke open a 14-11 game in the first half with an incredible 22-0 run that began with a three-pointer by freshman Turner Battle. The Bulls then wore out the Thundering Herd the rest of the half, winning the battle of the boards, 23-9, and scoring 20 points in the paint behind 17-of-27 shooting from the field and a near perfect 11-of-12 from the line.

UB increased its lead to 35 points on a dunk by senior Robert Brown early in the second-half and held a 32-point lead with 11:42 left. Battle then hit a jumper following four offensive rebounds during the same possession, dimming Marshall's hopes of a comeback.

The Thundering Herd managed to cut the deficit to 25 points before the buzzer on some long-range shooting by Tamar Slay, who was 6-of-10 from three-point range and finished with a game-high 28 points.

UB's leading scorer this season, senior Darcel Williams, had 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, and Battle just missed a triple-double with a career-high 17 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

Senior Louis Campbell had 10 points and six assists, junior Clement Smith scored 10 points and freshman Daniel Gilbert added 10.

Earlier in the week, the Bulls had a frigid shooting night in Toledo as the Rockets rebounded from a second-half deficit to down UB, 54-42, before 3,954 fans in Savage Hall.

UB shot just 31 percent from the field and committed 21 turnovers in the loss. Williams finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds and was the only Bull in double figures.

The Kent State Golden Flashes played a fast-paced, aggressive game and ran away with an 81-54 win over UB in front of 1,015 fans Feb. 20 in the M.A.C. Center in Kent, Ohio. The loss was UB's seventh straight.

UB freshman Erin Lawrenson led the Bulls with a career-high 18 points on six three-pointers, including four in the second half. Lawrenson ranks 14th in the MAC in three-pointers per game.

The Flashes led by 21 at halftime, 46-25, and they held the Bulls scoreless for the first four minutes and 42 seconds of the second half to increase their lead to 30, 55-25, before a three-pointer by Lawrenson got UB going again.

The Bulls got good looks at the basket but hurt themselves with turnovers throughout the game, committing 29, which Kent State converted into 37 points.

The Golden Flashes also dominated the Bulls inside, outscoring them by a 32-10 margin in the paint.
