24 points. The freshman, who missed seven games this season with a knee
sprain, also grabbed six rebounds and shot 11-of-12 from the free throw
line.

Kyle
Cerminara
of the wrestling team improved to a perfect 4-0 in Mid-American
Conference matches with his 8-3 decision over Central Michigan's
Bill Stouffer on Saturday. Cerminara, at 197 pounds, used three
take-downs, one escape and a riding-time point to earn the win.
The freshman also moved his overall mark to 18-10 and is 6-5 in
dual meet competitions.
Tracy
Hoover of the women's swimming-and-diving team set a school
record in the one-meter diving competition during Friday night's
home finale against Cornell. Hoover, a freshman, totaled 275.20
points in six dives to break Janet Ward's 11-year-old record of
272.50 points. Hoover also won the three-meter competition with
a total score of 288.70.

On Saturday,
senior Robert Brown hit what appeared to be a game-winning shot with
1.5 seconds left to put the Bulls up by one point. But Western Michigan's
Steve Reynolds caught an inbound pass just outside the three-point arc,
spun, dribbled twice and let go a 17-foot shot before the buzzer to
lift the Broncos over the Bulls, 60-59, in Alumni Arena.

UB got
20 points from sophomore Jessica Kochendorfer, but the Western Michigan
Broncos shot 50.8 percent from the floor (30-for-59) and a perfect 17-for-17
from the free throw line to run away with an 83-53 win in front of 754
fans in University Arena in Kalamazoo.
On Saturday,
a deep Ball State bench and too many turnovers by the Bulls resulted
in a 72-59 loss in front of 1,307 fans in Worthen Arena.

Central
Michigan, ranked 19th in the country, defeated the UB wrestling team,
28-9, on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman
Kyle Cerminara moved his MAC record to 4-0 with an 8-3 decision over
Central Michigan's Bill Stouffer. Cerminara, who wrestles at the 197-pound
weight class, picked up his points with three takedowns, an escape and
a riding-time point. He is tied for third on the Bulls with 16 dual
meet takedowns this season.

Track and Field
Teams
compete at Penn State
The men's
and women's track-and-field teams competed at the United States Track
Coaches Association Meet at Penn State over the weekend. The men placed
13th in a 14-team field, while the women were 11th among 13 squads.
The Bulls
set four school records at the meet. Laura Olson improved on her pole
vault record, setting a new mark of 11-6 to take fourth in the event.
Faith Thompson established a new shot put mark with a toss of 44-7.50
with an eighth-place finish. Eric Czubaj placed 19th in the 3000 meters
in a record time of 8:37.31, and the distance medley relay squad of
Doug Johnston, Pete Otovic, Pete Zacariello and Czubaj ran a school-best
10:07.23.

Miami 205, UB 35
UB concluded
its regular season with a pair of losses Saturday to MAC powerhouses
Eastern Michigan and Miami. The Bulls were defeated in the tri-meet
by the Eagles and RedHawks by identical 205-35 scores. UB closes the
regular season at 3-7 overall and 1-6 in MAC competition.

In the
home finale of the 2001-02 season, UB defeated Cornell, 197.50-102.50,
Friday night in the Alumni Arena Natatorium.
UB freshman
Tracy Hoover broke a decade-old school record with her victory off the
one-meter board. Hoover tallied a total of 275.20 points in six dives
to eclipse the record of 272.50 set by Janet Ward in the 1990-91 season.
Hoover also took first in the three-meter competition with a total of
288.70 points.
Another
highly touted UB freshman, Jennefer Brankovsky won three individual
events and anchored a winning relay squad to lead the Bulls.
The Bulls
were swept by MAC rivals on Saturday in Ypsilanti, Mich., losing to
Eastern Michigan, 228-72, and Miami, 230-70.
Tennis
Men's
Marist

Cornell 7, UB 0
UB opened
the spring portion of its schedule Saturday at the Cornell Invitational,
falling to Marist, 4-3, and Cornell, 7-0.
UB picked
up singles victories from its top three players in the match against
Marist. Fery Kasiman breezed past Pat Hofer, 6-3, 6-0, at first singles.
Justin Brtko defeated Mike Sowter, 6-4, 6-1, at number two, while freshman
Nick Zieziula knocked off Martin Aldorsson, 6-3, 6-3, at number three.
In the
Cornell match, the Bulls were swept by the Big Red, but Kasiman forced
his opponent into a three-set match before falling, 6-2, in the final
set.
