Bulls fall to LeMoyne, Miami
The UB baseball team was stunned by a pair of game-ending home runs, falling 11-8 in eight innings and 11-9 at LeMoyne to begin the week. In all, 13 home runs were hit by the two teams in the doubleheader, with UB clubbing seven and the Dolphins six. The losses drop the Bulls to 6-23 overall.
UB fell to Miami University, 3-1, at Dunn Tire Park to begin a four-game weekend series. Miami swept a doubleheader from the Bulls on Saturday by scores of 2-1 and 17-1.
Like the first three games of the series, Sunday's clash started as a pitcher's duel between UB's Mark McMahon and Miami's Michael Gardner. Miami eventually took the game by a 9-2 edge.

Brendan Dunford of the baseball team struck out 11 in recording a complete game in a 3-1 loss to defending Mid-American Conference Tournament Champion Miami. Dunford allowed just seven hits and one walk to pick up his first complete game of the season. The 11 strikeouts nearly doubled his season total of 13 in four previous starts this season.
Andrea Sage of the softball team went 2-0 for the week, throwing complete-game victories over St. Bonaventure (4-1) and Northern Illinois (6-2). Sage allowed just two earned runs, eight hits and one walk, while fanning seven in the two games as opponents hit just .157 against her. The win over Northern Illinois was Sage's first conference win of the year.

Softball
Bulls win doubleheader vs. Bonnies, lose to Huskies
The softball team swept a doubleheader from visiting St. Bonaventure, 5-1 and 4-1, to equal its win mark from one year ago to open the week. UB dominated both games, out-hitting the Bonnies by a 17-10 margin and allowing just one run in the seventh inning of each game.
The Bulls lost a single game Friday to Northern Illinois, 6-0, and split a doubleheader with the Huskies on Saturday, all in UB Softball Stadium. The Bulls got out to an early lead in game one and held on for a 6-2 win before the Huskies rebounded for a 5-2 victory in game two.
Outdoor Track
The Bulls participated in the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., against strong competition from around the country. The women's 4x400 relay team of Janelle Callender, Christina Keck, Biaunca McFarland and Katie Scott set a new school record of 3:48.33 at the meet. McFarland also placed 12th in the triple jump at 12.09 meters and Scott was 14th in the 400 hurdles in 53.21. Brian Lundy posted a fourth-place finish in the javelin at 195-4. Kamau Halim was 14th in the triple jump at 14.65 meters. Todd Ludden placed 24th in 10,000 meters (32:00.25), while Mike Commisso was 26th in the 800 meters (1:51.83).
UB also hosted the UB Open, where the Bulls men beat Canisius, 105-63, and the women downed the Griffs, 114-69. Chrissie Matthews and Faith Thompson were double winners for the Bulls. Matthews took the high jump and 100 hurdles. Thompson won the shot put and hammer throw competitions.

The Bulls picked up a pair of wins to improve their record to 14-3 overall. UB defeated Canisius, 7-0, followed by a 7-0 shutout of St. Lawrence.

UB's women's tennis team dropped a pair of MAC matches on the road last weekend, losing 7-0 to both Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.
Football
Blue 14, White 0
Sophomore tailback Marquis Dwarte ran for a game-high 60 yards and scored a touchdown as the Blue defeated the White, 14-0, in the annual spring football scrimmage in UB Stadium. The game was a defensive struggle, with neither team scoring until the Blue got a one-yard touchdown plunge from Tom Shaughnessy on the first play of the fourth quarter. Dwarte capped the scoring with 6:20 left on a three-yard dash to finish a six-play, 26-yard drive. The White team was paced by two-year starter Joe Freedy, who was 8-for-10 for 67 yards, but was sacked three times. The Blue defense had five sacks, including two each by Omari Jordan and Terrance Dawson. Cornerback Geoff Terry had three tackles and a forced fumble for the Blue defense. The White defense got seven tackles from linebacker Hank Pirowski and four tackles from captain Bob Dzvonick. Defensive back J.J. Gibson had three tackles and two pass breakups for the White.
Men's Basketball
Forward Mark Bortz, a 6-9, 230-pound native of Commerce Township, Mich., has signed a national letter of intent to continue his athletic and academic endeavors at UB. His signing is the Bulls' second commitment for the 2001-02 season. Point guard Turner Battle, of Kernersville, NC, in November signed an early letter of intent to attend UB. Bortz was listed among the top 30 players in the state at Class A by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan and was a first-team All-Metro North Detroit selection by the Detroit Free Press.
Women's Soccer
The women's soccer team has announced 14 newcomers to its roster for the 2001 season. All 14 student-athletes will attend UB next season and begin competing with the Bulls in the fall. They are: Carolyn Kanhai, Anna-Lesa Calvert, Vanessa Walsh, Erin Tambs, Jenny Dannecker, Lindsay Szafranski, Lauren Mort, Jessica Dunn, Arielle Korzczykowski, Andrea Baker, Susan Dzierzewski, Hilary Higley, Annie Malayny and Jennifer Rounds.
