MEN'S
Marshall 82, UB 62
Ohio, 90, UB 50

The UB men's basketball team dropped two games last week against Mid-American Conference opponents on the road as it lost to Marshall, 82-62, on Jan. 14 and Ohio, 90-50, on Saturday.

Even though the Bulls led the Marshall Thundering Herd, 37-36, at halftime, they were unable to get their first MAC win for Coach Tim Cohane. Sophomore Nikolai Alexeev and freshman Alexei Vasiliev spearheaded Buffalo's offense with 13 points apiece while Louis Campbell added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

In Saturday's loss against Ohio, the Bulls were led again by Vasiliev, who had 10 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal off the bench.

WOMEN'S
Kent State 86, UB 77
UB 84, Bowling Green 51

The Bulls played two MAC opponents last week as they lost to host Kent State, 86-77, on Jan. 13 and beat Bowling Green, 84-51, in Alumni Arena on Saturday.

The UB women nearly ended the Kent State Golden Flashes' 30-game home-win streak, but despite eight players scoring in double figures, including sophomore center Tiffany Bell's 19 points and seven rebounds, Cheryl Dozier's squad fell short of a victory.

On Saturday, the Bulls shot 54.5 percent from the field, hitting 36-of-66, and were led by senior forward Kim Coon, who netted 23 points. Bell grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds and scored 13 points.

Senior Catherine Jacob contributed 12 points and a team-high eight assists, while sophomore forward Elinor Andersson recorded a career-high 10 points. Sonia Ortega had a solid performance, with seven points, nine rebounds, six steals and four assists.

Swimming

WOMEN'S
St. Bonaventure 187, UB 113

The UB women's swimming team moved to 5-3 on the season after losing to Western New York rival St. Bonaventure, 187-113, in the Alumni Arena Natatorium.

The Bulls were led by junior Inger Rooneem, who took first-place finishes in the 50-meter freestyle (24.37) and the 200-individual medley (2:10.66). She was also a member of the winning 200-medley relay squad (3:10.89), along with freshman Michelle Bricknell, junior Kim Theetge and senior Lieselle Trinidad.

First-place finishes also came from freshman Carrie Quinlan in the 100-meter butterfly (59.25) and senior Andrea Skillman in the one-meter diving competition with 235.95 points.

Wrestling

Ohio University 20, UB 12
Edinboro University 20, UB 12

The UB wrestling team opened its home season Saturday with two losses, including a loss in its first-ever Mid-American Conference match.

In the morning meet, the Bulls fell to Ohio University, 20-12. Jacob Schaus was a 5-0 winner for UB at 174 pounds. John Eschenfelder came away with an exciting win in the heavyweight division, using a takedown in overtime for the win. Brian Schaal was the other UB winner at 125 pounds.

In the afternoon match, the Bulls fell to Edinboro University, currently ranked in the top 30 nationally, losing 20-12. Brian Schaal got his second win of the day with an 8-4 decision at 125 pounds. Bill Jacoutot was a 10-7 for UB at 141 pounds. The Bulls also got two decisions from Matt Ricci, a 7-2 winner at 184 pounds, and from Josh States, a 3-1 winner at 197 pounds
