Now, bringing your work with you has never been easier! A joint venture between the University Libraries and Computing and Information Technology (CIT) has resulted in OpenPort-direct access to the Internet for your portable computing devices. Designed for the laptop user, OpenPort is available to affiliated UB community members with a UB IT name.

OpenPort connections have been installed in varied environments in five different libraries on campus. Lockwood, Law, Science and Engineering and Undergraduate libraries all have OpenPort jacks in open areas. The Health Sciences, Law, and Science and Engineering libraries have both individual and group rooms wired with OpenPort connections. Visit the OpenPort Web site http://wings.buffalo.edu/computing/openport/ or the individual libraries for any restrictions or use policies.

The technology is not yet "plug-n-play," so be sure to read "Campus Access" documentation available in each of the above mentioned libraries and outside 216 Computing Center before you use one of the OpenPort areas. Support for OpenPort is provided by CIT through the Help Desk at 645-3542, and through two newsgroups, sunyab.openport.announce (moderated announcement info from CIT) and sunyab.openport.discuss (public newsgroup). The FAQ also is available on the OpenPort Web site.

For assistance in using OpenPort connections, contact the CIT Help Desk at 645-3542.
