Extra! Extra! Read All About It!
Read Eesti Ekspress, The Jerusalem Post or Han'guk Ilbo online! Many international newspapers and wire services are providing up-to-date news over the Internet. With a simple click of your mouse you can access newspapers that might be very expensive or difficult to obtain otherwise. Coverage varies widely, however, with some news sources offering full-text of the printed versions, while others give only headlines and an online subscription form. Several even provide a built-in search engine so you can search the current and/or archived stories by keyword(s).
Like all Web sites, newspaper and wire-service sites are proliferating at a phenomenal rate. To check if your favorite paper is online, use the following metasites, which list newspapers and news services available via the Web:
Kidon Media Link (http://www.dds.nl/~kidon/papers.html) is one of the most comprehensive sites, covering papers, magazines, TV, radio, news agencies and film studios. You can browse its holdings by continent, and then, within continent, by country. Newspapers of the World on the Internet (http://www.actual idad.com/) offers a similarly impressive international list, with some brief annotations describing the paper and noting whether the full text is available online. Editor & Publisher magazine's MediaINFO Links (http://www.mediainfo.com/emedia/) also maintains an extensive list, with an emphasis on Japan and Korea. You can search its database by geographic location or by media type (associations, city guides, magazines, newspapers, radio, syndicates, television) or by a combination of geographic location and media type. Yahoo! (http://www.yahoo.com/News_and_ Media/Newspapers/Regional/Countries/) also offers a huge range of newspapers indexed by country-click on a country for links to national and regional papers.
You might also check the University Libraries' list of newspaper and news sources metasites through BISON at (http://ublib.buffalo.edu/libraries/e-resources/enews/#add). The University Libraries also maintains a list of more than 100 electronic newspapers and news sources selected by UB librarians. This list is available through BISON at (http://ublib.buffalo.edu/libraries/e-resources/enews/), and provides access to several international papers including The Guardian, The International Herald Tribune, The Jerusalem Post and The Straits Times (Singapore). This list is continually updated. If you have questions or wish to suggest titles for inclusion, contact the UB Libraries Electronic Newspapers Team at
