Canisius got off to a convincing start, capturinig the first game, 15-3. Buffalo quickly bounced back in the second game, winning 15-6. But the tables continued to turn throughout the match, with Canisius grabbing game three, 15-10, Buffalo snatching game four, 15-3, and Canisius finally winning game five, 15-10, and the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Rebecca Meade connected on 13 kills and grabbed 11 digs. Senior Kathy Brinkworth had 12 kills and 16 digs.

Basketball

UB 85, Southern Utah 75
Junior Scott McMillin came off the bench to score 17 points as the Bulls won over Southern Utah, 85-75, on Nov. 15 in their season opener and first conference game of the season.

McMillin hit a 20-footer from the right wing with 4:34 left in the second half to ignite a 11-0 run by the Bulls and put them up 82-68. Southern Utah never got closer than 10 points in the final minutes of the second half as the Bulls hung on for the win.

Buffalo shot an outstanding 51 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free-throw line, as three Buffalo players scored in double figures. In addition to McMillin, senior Rasaun Young led the way with 25 points and senior Mike Martinho contributed 20 points.

Women's
UB 94, Cornell 55
Senior Charissa Gardner poured in 21 points as the women's basketball team defeated Cornell University, 95-55, in the Bulls season-opener in Ithaca on Nov. 14.

Buffalo scored the first six points of the game and opened up a 16-2 lead on two straight 3-point field goals by junior Kim Coon with 15:34 left. Beginning the second half with a commanding 55-27 lead, the Bulls picked up where they left off, again scoring the first six points of the half.

Cornell could not handle Buffalo's tenacious defense as the Bulls forced the Big Red to commit 24 turnovers in the game. The Bulls turned the ball over only 13 times and shot 53.8 percent from the field for the game.

Three Buffalo players scored in double figures, with senior Charissa Gardner leading the way with 21 points. Also contributing for the Bulls were juniors Kim Coon with 13 points and Catherine Jacob with 14 points.

Men's Swimming
UB 121, St. Bonaventure 110
Sophomore swimmer Dan Hickey finished first in two events as the men's swimming team defeated St. Bonaventure, 121-110, on Nov. 15. Hickey finished first with a time of 1:44.59 in the men's senior 200-freestyle and also grabbed first in the men's senior 100-freestyle with a time of 47.84.

Football

Despite a disappointing record, the Bulls posted several impressive marks throughout the season, as senior Anthony Swan became the all-time leading rusher in Buffalo history (3,103 yards); quarterback Chad Salisbury set numerous records, including completions (218), yards (2,889) and attempts (384), and wide receiver Drew Haddad became the first UB player with over 1,000 yards receiving in a season, grabbing 67 passes for 1,058 yards-a new single-season school record. Split end Jamie Gasparre matched the record for touchdown receptions in a career (19) and finished his two-year UB career with 102 receptions. Nose guard Keith Hansen finished with 41 career tackles for loss.

Wrestling
Two freshmen finished in the finals at the Slippery Rock Invitational held Nov. 15 in Slippery Rock, Pa. Chad Caros and Vince DeAugustine both made it to the finals of the invitational and finished second overall.

Josh States, also a freshman, and junior Brian Schaal both placed fourth overall in the open tournament. No team scores were recorded for the invitational.
