Football

UB 20, University of Massachusetts 26 The University of Massachusetts gave up a school-record 459 yards passing, but came up with two key fourth-quarter interceptions to defeat the Bulls, 26-20, on Oct. 18 at UB Stadium.

The Bulls had pulled to within 26-20 when Chad Salisbury-who completed 30-of-51 passes for 459 yards and three touchdowns-hit split end Drew Haddad with an 11-yard TD pass with 6:04 left. Haddad was one of three UB players to go over 100 yards receiving in the game with a career-high 11 catches for 147 yards.

The 459 yards passing by the Bulls were the most the Minutemen have given up in their 114-year football history. Kali Watkins added nine catches for 128 yards and Jamie Gasparre had six catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns (48 and 63 yards) for UB.

"We reverted in the second half to having mistakes snowball on us," said UB head coach Craig Cirbus. "We have been relying so much on the pass, but today is an example of what happens when you create a personality. When you become that biased in your play selection and you become that reliant on one part of the game those things will happen, you're going to get turnovers."
