UB faculty, staff and students will have an opportunity to offer their input to the committee searching for UB’s next provost during two listening sessions to be held next week.

The sessions will be held from 4-5 p.m. Feb. 6 in the Center for Tomorrow, North Campus, and from 8-9 a.m. Feb. 9 in 105 Harriman Hall, South Campus.

A session was held yesterday in UB’s New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences on the Downtown Campus.

While registration is not required, those attending the North and South campus sessions are asked to send an email to ProvostSearch@buffalo.edu so that organizers have an idea of the number of people attending.

During the sessions, representatives of the search committee will provide a brief overview of the search process, respond to questions from participants and hear from them regarding the challenges and opportunities they foresee for UB’s next provost, as well as priorities for the search committee as it prepares to evaluate candidates.

The committee, headed by co-chairs Anne B. Curtis, Charles and Mary Bauer Professor and chair of the Department of Medicine, and David Felder, Birge-Cary Chair in the Department of Music, has been working with search consultant Ilene Nagel of Russell Reynolds Associates to develop a pool of candidates for the position.

Over the next two months, the committee will review the candidate pool and conduct confidential, off-campus interviews with the most promising candidates. Following those interviews, the leading candidates will visit campus for more extensive sessions that will include meetings with members of the senior administration and representatives of campus stakeholder groups. In addition, each candidate will take part in an open forum with members of the university community.

A new provost is expected to be on board by July.

Members of the campus community are invited at any time during the search process to communicate with the search committee via email at ProvostSearch@buffalo.edu.
