  • I head barefoot downstairs, to the tiled basement. Very cool!

  • My family and I retreat to Akron/Newstead, where my mother owns a lot at a resort community. There are several pools, swimming and fishing holes, and, most importantly, AC! It was a life saver over this past week!

  • I stay cool in the summer by biking down to Delaware Park and reading in the shade by Hoyt Lake. The breeze off the water is just perfect on warm days.

  • This photo is from July 4, 1999, when we took our dogs, Nushi and Tyler, up to Port Weller Beach in Canada. Not many U.S. beaches allow dogs! The temp that day reached 94 or 95 degrees, and we literally spent the day with our chairs sitting right in the water to stay cool. Both of those dogs are sadly gone, but we now have a year-and-a-half-old Bernese mountain dog who we’re trying to get used to the water, so she goes up there with us now.
