Power outage to affect North Campus

Published: July 14, 2011

Power will be out for two hours on Saturday on the North Campus so that crews can replace the original 230kv motor-operated tie switch on campus transformers.

Power will be out across the North Campus from 5-6 a.m., and again from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Emergency power will be available during those times. While normal service will be available between 6 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., air conditioning will be limited.

Generators will be used to power the traffic signals on campus. Alarm technicians will be on duty to monitor the campus’ dispatch, phone and alarm systems.

Disruption is expected to be minimal.

Any departments whose ability to conduct business will be severely restricted due to the power interruptions should call Larry Poturalski, electrical engineer, at 645-7964, or Mike Garguiolo, supervising electrician, at 645-5273.

All units and departments on the North Campus should turn off computer terminals before the scheduled power outage times to avoid technical problems.
