Kathryn R. Costello will leave her position as UB vice president for development and alumni relations in January to assume a similar position at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky.

Costello will remain engaged in UB development efforts as a campaign consultant, a role she held when she first joined UB in 2006 to advise the university on its advancement programs and prepare for its next comprehensive capital campaign.

An interim vice president for development and alumni relations will be named before Costello leaves in January.

Costello says the position at Western Kentucky University will allow her to be reunited with her family.

“I need to live closer to my family at this time,” Costello says. “I’m very glad that I am able to continue working with the University at Buffalo in a consultative manner and I remain committed to the good work we’re doing here. I am passionate about UB and its unique mission. UB 2020—the university’s strategic plan—has inspired so many to give back. I’m proud that I’ve helped to position the university for increased private philanthropy.”

President John B. Simpson says Costello is adept at strategic planning, institutional positioning and leadership development in higher education. “When we saw what she accomplished at other institutions, we asked her to join the UB leadership team. We appreciate all that she has helped us to achieve thus far, and UB will remain in good hands with her continued counsel.”
