UB will welcome the newest members of the university community this weekend with the traditional Opening Weekend activities designed to help incoming students settle in before classes begin on Monday.

Freshmen move into their residence halls on Thursday and Friday, and throughout the weekend will have the opportunity to learn about UB resources and campus services, attend social events and meet fellow students, learn their way around the North and South campuses, and take bus tours to such popular off-campus destinations as Niagara Falls, the Niagara outlet mall or the Elmwood Arts Festival.

President John B. Simpson will address new students and their families at the annual University Welcome Ceremony, to take place at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Alumni Arena, North Campus. The New Student Picnic will follow the welcome ceremony, with a free chicken barbecue served to students and their families at 5:30 p.m. at Baird Point, North Campus. The picnic offers students and their families an opportunity to mingle with UB faculty and staff, and meet other students and their families.

Other free activities include a Concert at the Point, featuring the band More Than Me (7 p.m. Friday, Baird Point), the Welcome Back Bash (9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Student Union) and Movie Night (9:30 p.m. Sunday), featuring screenings of “Iron Man 2” (Special Events Field) or “Hot Tub Time Machine” (Student Union Theater).
