  • RSA commissioner visits UB

UB’s Region 2 Technical Assistance and Continuing Education (TACE) Center hosted its second advisory committee meeting last week that featured a keynote speech by Lynnae M. Ruttledge, commissioner of the U.S. Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) in the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, U.S. Department of Education.

The two-day meeting focused on the future of vocational rehabilitation, activities of state agencies and the impact of the economy on vocational rehabilitation. In her keynote address, Ruttledge discussed the importance of collaboration between RSA and TACE, then led a discussion on the recommendations and perspectives of state vocational rehabilitation agencies, TACE and the monitoring process.

She also met with state directors of vocational rehabilitation agencies, community rehabilitation programs, client assistant programs, independent living centers, and Native American and parent advocacy programs from throughout Region 2, which includes New York, New Jersey Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In addition, she met with other university directors of National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research-funded programs.

TACE, part of the Graduate School of Education’s Center on Rehabilitation Synergy, is funded by a five-year, $4 million grant from RSA. Formerly known as RCEP II, TACE works with state vocational rehabilitation agencies and their partners to provide ongoing, customized support and continuing education in the diverse field of vocational rehabilitation.
