  • Two years ago, my TV broke. After a brief period of despair, I realized it was a great relief. For local information, from in-depth political or economic analysis to the fringe artistic events, I rely on hard copies of Artvoice, picked up at the Capen library or locally owned stores. To see what is happening nationally, I enjoy reading what other countries say about us. The online version of the British Guardian is a very good resource and has a comprehensive coverage of not-so-easy to find artists. As a real treat, I sometimes go to Talking Leaves Books on Elmwood Avenue and browse through an impressive collection of their often politically incorrect newspapers and magazines. For satire, which often resembles factual events, I rely on The Onion. For scientific information that I use professionally, one-on-one conversations about yet unpublished work sometimes trumps the ever-growing number of scientific journals that seem impossible to follow regularly.

  • I get my news from around the world mainly by listening to NPR to and from work, but also by following the news online via Google News and other media outlets. News related to my profession is gathered almost entirely online, but equally important: I have a large circle of colleagues and people interested in what I do that send me e-mails with information they think I will be interested in.

  • I usually get it either watching the morning news, like the “Today Show” or Channel 2, or I look online. I don’t read the paper. When online, I read Yahoo! News.
