What’s the most outrageous or creative Halloween costume you’ve ever seen?

  • I like to see kids in homemade costumes. My favorite was a Jack-in-the-box where a boy crouched inside and sprung open the lid when you opened the door.

  • Some of the units within Crofts Hall have a tradition of dressing up and trick or treating through the building. A few years ago, Crofts had a problem with fruit flies in the basement vending machines. Judy Miller, recently retired assistant vice president for procurement and campus services, dressed as the “Crofts Fruit Fly,” complete with antennae, wings and fruit! Who knew the pesky bug could inspire so much creativity and fun?

  • A small boy in a gnome costume. He was wearing a covered inner tube around his waist, with trousers and stuffed legs and feet inside pointed shoes that extended out from his waist and hung out over the edge of the tube so it appeared he was sitting and floating a foot or so above the ground. Very clever! Another one of my favorites is “a bunch of grapes”—a small child whose mother worked diligently to affix purple balloons all around her, with a green felt “stem” on top.
