The Professional Staff Senate has recognized William K. Wachob and Mary Henesey with Outstanding Service Awards.

Wachob, assistant dean for resource management, School of Nursing, received the UB Professional Staff Outstanding Service Award, which is given to a full-time professional staff member for outstanding volunteer service to the community and excellence within the individual's professional position.

Henesy, assistant director of Web services, Office of the Provost, received the Outstanding Service to the Professional Staff Senate Award, which recognizes members of the PSS whose service far exceeds the scope of their expected duties.

The awards were presented at the PSS’ annual awards luncheon last month. Recipients of the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service—Dinesh Sukumara, director of the Magnetic Resonance Center in the Department of Chemistry, and Amy Loucks-DiMatteo, supervising programmer and analyst, University Libraries—also were recognized at the luncheon.

A professional staff member for more than 35 years, Wachob currently servers as chief fiscal officer for the nursing school, as well as its physical and human resources manager.

He has worked in numerous units over the years, including the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the School of Health Related Professions—now the School of Public Health and Health Professions—in addition to the School of Nursing.

Wachob is involved in many organizations on campus, among them the PSS, including a term as chair; SEFA and the Campaign for the Community; the Environmental Task Force; and UB Faculty and Staff for Peace, which he helped found.

He also is active in the wider community, volunteering on behalf of a variety of community concerns, such as wellness, environmental stewardship, progressive media and the Peace Bridge expansion project.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and a master’s degree from UB.

Since joining the UB staff in 2006 as assistant director of Web services, Henesey has worked on designing and developing some key university Web sites, including those for Admissions, the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and UB 2020.

She became involved with the PSS as a member of its Wellness Committee, helping to coordinate the annual Wellness Awareness Day in 2008. As a member of the Web Site Committee, she was instrumental in guiding a major redesign of the senate’s Web site. She also has served on the Quality of Work Life and Diversity committees, and worked on the PSS book drive last fall.

Henesey received a bachelor’s degree in communication and art studio from Geneseo State College and earned desktop publishing and Web developer certificates from George Washington University and UB’s Center for Executive Development, respectively.
