The Children and Family Services Board meets four times a year on matters relating to the improvement of children and family services in New York State and advises the commissioner of children and family services on a variety of issues, including services to families; care of children, adolescents and adults; family preservation; prevention of child abuse; juvenile delinquency prevention; adoption; foster care; youth development; day care services; domestic violence programs; and services to the blind and visually handicapped.

Six UB staff members and one faculty member are among the nine graduates of the UB Police Department’s first Citizen’s Police Academy Class.

The seven-week program is free of charge and open to UB students, stakeholders, faculty and staff. The sessions are taught by experienced police officers who share their perspective on law enforcement. Some areas of instruction include defensive tactics, use of force, fire, EMS and environmental health and safety, specialized units, investigations and the police ride-a-long program. The goal of the academy is to open UPD to the public and show the community how the department functions and why.

The graduates are Marilyn Kramer, University Libraries; David Ellerbrock, University Heights Collaborative; Adam Dio, Parking and Transportation Services; Crysti Biltucci, Residence Hall Student Senate; Renee Green, Parking and Transportation Services; Michelle Johnson, Residence Life; William Grande, School of Management; Tom Barsi, Rural Metro Medical Services; and Cindy Konovitz, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
