Word of Mouth

What is your favorite building on UB’s three campuses?

Send your response to ub-word-of-mouth@buffalo.edu and we’ll publish the responses we receive in the next online UB Reporter.

  • Does the Ellicott Complex on the North Campus count as a building? As a student, I always thought it would make the perfect evil-power-bent-on-world-domination lair. A little short on laser power, but lots of room for minions.

  • The Center for the Arts is an invigorating building, as it provides light especially during those gray days of winter.

    John Astudillo, Ed.M. ’77
    Men’s Soccer Head Coach
    Division of Athletics

  • The Health Sciences Library in Abbott Hall, South Campus. The Great Hall on the second floor is incredible, and the Directors Conference Room on the third floor is probably the nicest room on any of the three campuses.

Readers weigh in on last week’s question.

If you could create another national holiday, what would it be called?

I would like to see Native American Day as a special holiday and nationally recognized. It falls on the fourth Friday in September every year. I would like to see it acknowledged, as well as having the day off, to honor our Native Americans. Not too many people even know it exists on our calendar! Did you know about Native American day in September?

My holiday would be the National Day of Silence and it would fall on the first Monday in August. Humans are either consuming noise or creating it. Some of us have even gone into our own little underground worlds of noise through our iPods. The National Day of Silence would encourage us to turn off all devices, stop our endless texting and talking, and spend some time listening to the natural world around us.
