Aidong Zhang, professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has been named a 2009 IEEE fellow for her contributions to multimedia data indexing. IEEE fellows are an elite group of leaders and innovators in electrical and electronic technology. Zhang has been a senior member of IEEE since 2007.

Patricia Mazon, associate professor of history, gave an invited talk, “The First Generation of Female Studies and the Admission of the ‘Better Elements,’ 1890-1914,” at a recent conference held at Humboldt University, Berlin, to mark the 100th anniversary of the admission of women to German universities. The conference, entitled on “The Sex of Education: Hegemony and Dissidence,” was sponsored by the Center for Transdisciplinary Gender Studies at Humboldt.

Claire Schen, associate professor of history, has been awarded a grant-in-aid to attend the monthly meetings of “Forms of Religious Experience in the 17th-Century British Atlantic World,” the yearlong colloquium at the Folger Institute in Washington, D.C. Schen will present her current research on Christian and Muslim contact and conflict in the early 17th century.
