  • Film festival continues

The 2009 International Women's Film Festival will continue on Feb. 19 with a screening of “A Night of Truth” at 7 p.m. in the Market Arcade Film and Arts Center, 639 Main St., Buffalo.

Directed by Fanta Nacro, Burkina Faso’s first woman director, “A Night of Truth / La Nuit de la Verite” tells the story of two warring peoples in an unnamed African nation that embark on a path to peace during a conciliatory feast. The 2004 film is at once a compendium of contemporary African ordeal—from the seeds of ethnic butchery to the labor pains of reconciliation—and a compelling local tragedy prompting comparisons with Shakespeare and the Greeks.

Marieme Lo, assistant professor in the Department of Global Gender Studies, will lead the discussion after the film.

The festival is sponsored by the Institute for Research and Education on Women and Gender.

Tickets are $9 for general admission and $6.50 for students, seniors and Hallwall members.
