While UB’s historic trip to the International Bowl on Jan. 3 had a disappointing outcome for most fans—the Bulls lost to the University of Connecticut Huskies, 38-20—the event did have a bright spot for UB cheerleader Eve Solomon: She got engaged.

Solomon was surprised on the sideline shortly before halftime when her boyfriend, Marine Lance Corporal Mike Neisen of Tonawanda, proposed.

Neisen was to be deployed on Jan. 5 for training in preparation for a tour in Iraq. Unbeknownst to Solomon, he traveled to Toronto and managed to wrangle his way onto the sideline. He proposed; she accepted.

"I had no idea," said Solomon, a junior communication major. "I had told him to watch the game, that it would be on ESPN2. I really didn't expect this."

"I'm still kind of fidgety," admitted Neisen, who was enjoying a view from the sideline for the first time in his life. "I was really nervous, and now I'm just really excited."
