The Department of Theatre and Dance will present the award-winning musical “Urinetown April 24-28 in the Drama Theatre in the Center for the Arts, North Campus.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The musical, with music and lyrics by Mark Hollman and book and lyrics by Greg Kotis, will be presented in a full production with orchestra and newly designed and executed sets, lights and costumes.

The winner of several Tony Awards, including “Best Original Score Written for the Theatre” (best composer and lyricist), “Urinetown” is set in a time when water is in short supply and comes at a high price. It tells a side-splitting tale of greed, corruption, love and revolution. After a 20-year drought, the city has a government-enforced ban on private toilets. One malicious company profits by charging admission to the obligatory public amenities. A hero arises from the midst of the masses that plans a revolution to free them.

The production will be directed and choreographed by guest artist DJ Salisbury. Nathan R. Matthews, UB director of music theatre, will music direct and conduct the production. Students in the music theatre BFA degree program comprise the cast.

Tickets for “Urinetown” are $20 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors, and are available at the CFA box office and at tickets.com.
