What mentoring means to me:

Mentoring to me is about helping mentee's achieve success. One way mentors can help is by providing career and personal guidance. Mentors support mentee's by counseling, guiding and coaching them through challenging times or by simply serving as someone to talk to about life and or situations they are encountering. I see my role as a mentor offering support and helping students develop, so they can achieve their goals.

Topics I am willing to discuss with students:

Minority Experiences

  • Being a woman and related discrimination.
  • Racial, ethnic, cultural and/or religious minority status and related discrimination.

Personal Circumstances

  • Caregiving for children.

Academic Culture

  • Considering a non-academic path after grad school.
  • Taking a non-traditional path to grad school.

Other Topics

  • Black women and racism in higher education.
