What mentoring means to me:

Mentoring to me is about helping mentees achieve success. One way mentors can help is by providing career and personal guidance. Mentors support mentees by counseling, guiding and coaching them through challenging times or by simply serving as someone to talk to about life and/or situations they are encountering. I see my role as a mentor offering support and helping students develop, so they can achieve their goals.

Topics I am willing to discuss with students:

Academic Culture

  • Considering a non-academic path after grad school.
  • Taking a non-traditional path to grad school.

Other Topics

  • Black women and racism in higher education.

Personal Experiences

  • Caregiving for children.
  • Experiences related to being a woman.
  • Experiences related to racial, ethnic, cultural and/or religious minority status.
