What mentoring means to me:

As a first generation college student, good mentors were central at every stage of my education. These folks recognized my potential, pushed me to reach and expand it, and offered support along the way. I continue to benefit from the mentorship of those around me in and outside of UB. Returning the favor and serving in a mentorship role for my students is the best part of my job.

Topics I am willing to discuss with students:

Academic Culture

  • Considering a non-academic path after grad school.
  • Dealing with politics and conflict with faculty or peers.
  • Decoding and demystifying academic culture and norms.
  • Uncertainty about staying in grad school.

Personal Experiences

  • Caregiving for children.
  • Experiences related to being a woman.
  • Experiences related to class and/or socioeconomic status.
  • Experiences related to mental health and/or abilities.
  • Experiences related to previous incarceration or being system-impacted.
