Utilizing formal mentorship structures (for example, your dissertation committee, your advisor, and your peer groups) is very important. But sometimes you need to talk to somebody outside of your regular circle of support to get a fresh perspective or connect with somebody who understands a particular challenge you are facing. Over the course of my educational journey, many people have offered me their mentorship in informal and formal settings. I am very happy to connect with students who are seeking similar support.
