Slee Visiting Artist Series: Atlantic Brass Quintet

Slee Hall Performance, Feb. 6

The Atlantic Brass Quintet, renowned for its masterful and vibrant performances, will be featured in the Slee Visiting Artist Series at the University at Buffalo. With a repertoire spanning five centuries and a broad spectrum of styles, from baroque transcriptions to lively Balkan brass music, the Quintet has captivated audiences worldwide.

The program will include Jeff Scott’s “Saints and Sinners,” which was commissioned by the ABQ.

Loyal Blues receive two complimentary tickets to the performance on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Virtual Talk with Koritha Mitchell, PhD: Harriet Jacobs: Survivor, Advocate, Artist , Feb. 8

While many Americans recognize Frederick Douglass, fewer know Black women of the nineteenth century like Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth, who were also powerful abolitionist orators. Harriet Jacobs, under the pseudonym Linda Brent, became the first formerly enslaved African American woman to publish a book-length account of her life in 1861. Her work, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, is widely read and studied. Koritha Mitchell's edition of this book includes extensive footnotes, a thorough introduction, and six appendices with historical and cultural documents. In this presentation, Mitchell will share her insights from editing this significant work.

This virtual talk takes place on Feb. 8 at 11:00 a.m. The first 20 Loyal Blues who register will recieve a complimentary copy of Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl.

Virtual Chocolate Tasting, Feb. 20

Loyal Blues with a sweet tooth are invited to join us virtually and sample Buffalo-made chocolates from Blue Table Chocolates. Owner Ben Johnson will share an overview of the flavors and chocolate-making process.

Ann-Marie Torregrossa, Ph.D. from the  UB Department of Psychology and Behavioral Neuroscience will also join us to discuss why we like the tastes that we do, and how our taste for chocolate may have developed.

The first 100 Loyal Blues who register receive a complimentary tasting box from Blue Table Chocolates to enjoy during the discussion. One box of chocolates per household.

The Robert L. Brown History of Medicine Collection Tour

Special Tour, Feb. 25

The Robert L. Brown History of Medicine Collection was established in 1972. The collection was named in 1985 for Robert L. Brown, MD, former Associate Dean of the School of Medicine, in recognition of his strong support of the Abbott Library for more than twenty-five years.

The collection includes historical materials in all areas of the health sciences, including dentistry, medicine nursing, pharmacy, & public health.

Loyal Blues join curator Dr. Keith Mages, on an exlusive tour through the collection followed by a special wine and cheese reception on Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m.

Spring Program, Feb. 28

Zodiaque Dance Company is UB’s eminent pre-professional dance company.  

In keeping with Zodiaque’s mission, the spring program will feature a diverse array of dance styles across two acts, created by a varied and accomplished group of choreographers.
