At UB, making a difference extends beyond the classroom or office. One of our proudest traditions as faculty and staff is giving back. Through Lead the Charge Faculty Staff Giving, you can support the areas that matter most to you. With more than 1,500 funds to choose from, every gift, no matter the size, adds up to meaningful change.
UB students do, see and learn things beyond their wildest dreams. Donor-funded scholarships enable more students from all backgrounds to earn a degree—and take on the world. 7,000 students received scholarships last year.
Thanks to the generosity of UB Fund donors, students facing unexpected financial hardship have the resources they need. Your support helps keep students on track—98% of students who receive emergency grants stay in school to pursue their degree.
Students apply their knowledge and insight within real-world contexts outside the classroom. Opportunities like study abroad, internships, community engagement and clinical experiences are possible because of faculty-staff donor support.
You're part of a dedicated community of professionals who believe in the power of UB — from our remarkable students and world-class faculty to our innovative research and programs that make a global impact. Learn more about why your colleagues give back.

Q: What is the Lead the Charge: Faculty Staff Giving?
A: It’s a fundraising initiative for faculty and staff to support UB, which encourages others to do the same. Campus support goes beyond the classroom, directly impacting the student experience, and helps leverage greater external giving.
Q: Why is faculty and staff giving so important to UB?
A: Gifts from faculty and staff show that support starts at “home.” This is our university and our future. Your support helps fund important initiatives at UB. These gifts signify your endorsement of the university, announcing to alumni, students, friends, corporations and foundations that UB is worthy of support.
Q: What are the goals of the Lead the Charge?
We want to create a culture of generosity at UB, help build community and foster positive attitudes toward philanthropy among UB employees. The 2025-2026 goal is for 1,290 faculty and staff to participate and to raise $4.3 million.
Q: Why is private support so important to UB?
A: When faculty, staff, alumni and friends give to UB, they are helping to fund vital student initiatives that help UB students succeed.
Increased levels of philanthropy is important in national rankings; it helps UB retain its position among the nation’s top universities—and, most important, continue to serve its students.
Q: I already give to the University SEFA campaign. Does my SEFA gift count?
A: No. The funds raised for the SEFA campaign, although important to our community, do not contribute directly to the university. We are glad and grateful that you support SEFA, but through the UB Faculty Staff campaign, we are asking you to support our students and our university directly.
Q: May I designate my gifts to a particular area?
A: Yes, you may designate your gift to any area of UB that is important to you, or to the UB Fund, which directly and immediately supports UB students.
Q: Is my gift confidential?
A: Rest assured that all information about UB donors is handled with respect and confidentiality to the extent provided by the law.
Q: I can only give a modest amount. How can that possibly make a difference?
A: Our goal is participation-that means every gift is important! Lead the Charge shows the power of collective giving. Each of our gifts adds up to an incredible amount and demonstrate to other alumni and friends that we share their commitment to improving UB.
Q: Is my gift tax deductible?
A: Yes. Your gift is 100% tax deductible.
Q: What are my payment options?
A: You may give cash or by check, credit card, or payroll deduction. If you give by payroll deduction, the minimum is $1 per paycheck, and payments will begin within two pay cycles from when you submit your request. If you would like to consider a planned gift, an endowment gift, or a multi-year pledge, please contact 855-GIVE-2-UB (855-448-3282).
Q: If I signed up for payroll deduction last year, will it automatically renew?
A: It depends. Please call 855-GIVE-2-UB (855-448-3282) and a University Advancement staff member will determine if you provided an end-date to your payroll deduction pledge.
Q: Are there fees associated with contributions?
A: There is a one-time 5% administrative fee.
Q: I’ve already made an annual gift this year. Will it count toward Lead the Charge?
A: Yes, and we thank you very much for your contribution to UB. You may wish to consider making an additional contribution during Giving Day or increasing you payroll deduction.
Q: How can I find out my giving history?
A: Contact 855-GIVE-2-UB (855-448-3282) and a University Advancement staff member can provide you with this information.
