President Satish K. Tripathi has led the University at Buffalo through one of the most transformative periods in its history. Appointed UB’s 15th president in 2011, he is the longest-serving president since the university joined the SUNY system—and the first international-born president in UB’s history.

President Tripathi’s leadership has always been grounded in deep academic rigor. A distinguished scholar and educator, he earned his undergraduate degree at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), graduating at the top of his class, and he holds a master’s degree and a PhD in computer science from the University of Toronto, along with master’s degrees from BHU and the University of Alberta. That scholarly foundation shaped a presidency defined by intellectual ambition, steady governance and a steadfast belief in the power of education to improve lives.
