Established by Professor Claude E. Welch, the fund provides annual financial support to a graduate student who has submitted the best written, oral or visual presentation (i.e. paper, artwork, media production, etc.) that documents original research, or makes a significant contribution to understanding political phenomena. The fund combines the Welch Student Research Fund and the Graduate Paper Award.

At UB, we strive to attract qualified students from all walks of life. We believe, fervently, that an equal and fair judicial system must reflect the full range of cultures, beliefs and voices of our democracy.

At UB, we strive to attract qualified students from all walks of life. We believe, fervently, that an equal and fair judicial system must reflect the full range of cultures, beliefs and voices of our democracy. No law school can be exceptional if only the financially privileged can attend.

Named for one of the Law School's most well-known alumni, the Honorable Samuel L. Green '67 Endowed Award Fund was established in 2015 by various donors to provide awards to promising law students.

The fund is designed to support a variety of initiatives, including diversity scholarships and fellowships, bar exam support for students of color, the Discover Law program for underrepresented students considering law school, and training and programming on racial justice topics. By promoting inclusive excellence, the fund will help remove barriers to access and advancement for students, faculty and staff at the law school and in the legal profession.

Our award-winning Discover Law Undergraduate Scholars Program introduces talented students of color and first-generation students to law school and the rewards of a legal career.

For students finishing their first or second year of law school, summer fellowships are critical to launching their legal careers. This fund provides crucial financial support that enables students to participate in the defining experiences that are essential to a quality law school education, including externships, public service summer jobs, pro bono projects and competitions.

Commonly referred to as BPILP, the Buffalo Public Interest Law Program encourages law students to use their talents to bring equal access to those in need of legal help.

Created by two highly regarded and long-serving faculty internationalists at UB (Claude Welch and Jeannette Ludwig), this fund provides scholarships to UB students pursuing studies overseas in various fields. The example of Professor Welch’s and Professor Ludwig’s research and teaching about the global community inspires students to make the world their classroom. Based on available funds, a limited number of partial scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to assist students with the costs of study abroad for an academic year, semester, summer, or winter program.

Created by a retired UB staff member from the local Polish community, this fund supports visiting scholars from UB's distinguished partner, the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. Institutional partners for three decades, UB and the Jagiellonian have collaborated in many ways involving faculty, students, scholars and librarians. The fund makes it possible for doctoral students and junior faculty from the Jagiellonian to spend up to two months doing research at UB and conferring with UB colleagues, mentors and students. These visits have led to the successful completion of many Jagiellonian dissertations and book projects.
