Participate in the Ceremony

Graduates need to register in advance to participate in their ceremony; registration is separate and different from applying for graduation.

Registration, and other details such as ticketing, vary by ceremony. This information can be accessed, after the ceremony schedule is finalized, by visiting the Ceremonies & Celebrations page and clicking on your ceremony listing.

  • Review your degree status on HUB Academic Advisement Report on MyUB. All requirements must be satisfied on this report in order for your degree to be conferred. If you believe there is an error, contact your advisor immediately.
  • Check with your advisor to make sure you're on track to graduate.
  • Make sure UB has official final transcripts on file from any other college or university you may have attended.
  • All final grades must be in before degree can be conferred. Make sure Study Abroad, independent study and internship grades have been submitted, and ensure all incomplete grades are finalized.
  • Confirm how your name will be printed on your diploma including proper capitalization, diacritical accents, and the option to request a Preferred Diploma name
  • Eligible students will be listed in the program book by their preferred/chosen name as it appears in HUB. If one has not been provided, then legal name will be used unless an alternate request is made to the ceremony coordinator. Details about this are forthcoming and will be available on your ceremony’s website.
  • Review your permanent address in HUB by the conferral date to be sure your diploma is mailed to the correct location.

Be sure to pay your outstanding bills. Diplomas will not be released if you have an outstanding financial obligation to the University. You can view any holds in your HUB Student Center in the To Do tile.

Graduating students who are participating in their commencement ceremony wear academic apparel (cap, gown, hood and tassel). Information will be available on the Cap & Gown page of this website.
