The University at Buffalo’s (UB) Center for Urban Studies (CENTER) converted an unsightly city block fronting the Marva J. Daniel Futures Preparatory Academy (BPS#37) on Carlton Street into a diverse community park and vegetable garden. The garden is a significant green space in the Fruit Belt and is used as a classroom to teach students about food, nutrition, food systems, and urban gardening. The community park/garden is a collaborative project based on a partnership with Futures Academy and the CENTER, and it has been maintained and continuously upgraded for more than two decades.
