Description

Claire Ashley’s large-scale inflatable works reference organic architectural forms, situating and changing themselves to fit new environments. Interested in combining the mark of painting with the form of sculpture, Ashley will enliven the UB Anderson Gallery with her pop-culture palette, pushing outside the boundaries of the traditional canvas. These buoyant forms will be installed in conversation with works from the UB Art Galleries permanent collection, selected by the artist and by Senior Curator Rachel Adams, including pieces by Karel Appel, Charles Clough, Adele Cohen, Sam Francis, Joan Mitchell, and Diego Rivera.
