Description

Founded in 1891, the Buffalo Society of Artists is one of the oldest continually operating arts organizations in the country. The group currently numbers approximately 200 artists and its mission is ”to promote and recognize excellence in visual art through the presentation of exhibitions and activities favorable to artistic expression, and to develop interchange among artists and those interested in the arts.”

In celebration of its 120th Anniversary, exhibitions will be held at three separate locations running concurrently. The juried exhibition at the UB Anderson Gallery, selected by independent curator Sara Kellner out of 37 submissions, comprises eleven distinct installations. These artists work with and against tradition in a wide range of media, including painting, photography, and sculpture together with audio-visual work.

The UB Anderson Gallery’s exhibition coincides with the 115th Annual Catalogue Exhibition held at the Carnegie Art Center (November 10, 2011 – January 8, 2012) and the Burchfield Penney Art Center (November 10, 2011 – January 8, 2012).
