"Kristin Oppenheim’s The Spider and I offers audiences a pop-spiritual experience in which images of ecstasy and torment occupy the same space. Walking into the installation with its empty gallery and soothing soundtrack is like walking into the calm in the middle of a hurricane. What at first seems serene and meditative can become nightmarish.
