Description

Alfonso Volo’s personal universe is one filled with humor and horror. The paintings he creates are replete with seemingly charming organic forms, imagery perhaps representing an enlarged microscopic universe. Volo’s creatures seem to be a combination of the stuffed animals a child might sleep with and those imagined lurking under the bed, waiting to inflict bodily harm. Volo’s choice of materials for his objects, like razor blades and aquarium accessories, emphasizes the dual nature of this work that is at once menacing and playful.
