A SURE SIGN OF SUMMER. The recent weather may indicate otherwise, but summer is on the horizon, and a sure sign is the return of the Farmers Market on the South Campus. Despite gloomy skies, Maureen Schuh and her daughter, Jamie, turned out on Saturday to purchase beans from Jessica Koch of Olean. HR efforts recognized. University Human Resources has received a national award in recognition of UB’s HR Transformation Initiative.

Hauptman subject of documentary. Nobel Laureate and UB Distinguished Professor Herbert A. Hauptman is the subject of a documentary that will have its television premiere on Sunday.

Another Habitat for Humanity home. It’s a “win-win” situation for UB students who are finishing work on another house for Habitat for Humanity.

Restoring waterways. An annual workshop currently under way at UB is offering professional engineers and scientists ideas about how best to restore streams and other waterways.

Literacy center accepting applications. UB’s Center for Literacy and Reading Instruction is accepting applications for the fall semester to help children who are struggling with reading or writing.

Exploring direct democracy. The “electoral” theme continued at yesterday’s UBThisSummer lecture with a discussion of the use of ballot initiatives, voter referendums and recall elections in the American political process.
