Jacobs gift to staff research institute

UB announced yesterday a $10 million gift from Jeremy M. Jacobs, his wife, Margaret, and family to establish the Jacobs Institute, which will support research and clinical collaboration on the causes, treatment and prevention of heart and vascular diseases. » Full Story

Athletic achievements honored. Student-athletes from the women’s tennis and crew teams were recognized for their accomplishments during the past season at Monday’s meeting of the UB Council.

Profiting from partnerships. UB has developed a slate of new ways for business, government and community organizations to access the university’s vast array of top-notch technical resources and talent.

Honoring faculty entrepreneurship. UB has recognized the faculty members who developed a drug that helps premature babies breathe with the first UB Faculty Entrepreneur Award.

Looking at how structures collapse. UB structural engineers led by Gilberto Mosqueda are conducting comprehensive experiments to develop methods of designing steel buildings so that they will be less vulnerable to collapse during strong earthquakes.
