Celebrating academic excellence. Polar explorer Jean Malaurie received an honorary doctorate from SUNY last week during UB’s annual recognition of its academic achievements.

Panel leads ‘green’ efforts. UB has created a Committee on Environmental Stewardship to oversee the university’s efforts to attain its “green” goals.

‘Big Momma’ hugs dress salads at Bert’s. “Big Momma” Pitts takes customer service to a new level.

‘UB Paints’ cleans up neighborhood. A UB-organized collaboration of students, staff, alumni and community members last weekend performed a collective spring cleaning on 25 University Heights properties.

SOM dean finalists to visit. The finalists for the position of dean of the School of Management will visit campus, starting today, to meet with members of the UB and local business communities.

Giving ‘lower’ senses their due. The Humanities Institute last week honored Carolyn Korsmeyer, professor and former chair of the Department of Philosophy, for her outstanding work in aesthetics.

Further budget reductions? Satish K. Tripathi, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, spoke during yesterday's meeting of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee about possible further state budget troubles on the horizon for UB and SUNY.
