Musical to open film series. "Gold Diggers of 1933," a 1933 musical choreographed by the legendary Busby Berkeley, will open the 16th edition of the Buffalo Film Seminars.

Possible treatment for toxin found. A discovery by UB biologists that may explain the evolution of a lethal toxin is providing information that could lead to more effective treatments for humans who fall victim to it.

Applying MBSR in alcoholism treatment. A scientist at the Research Institute on Addictions is beginning a study of "mindfulness-based stress reduction" as an treatment of alcohol-use disorders.

Scientist wins award. UB geographer Chris Renschler has been awarded the 2007 Young Scholar Award from the Soil and Water Management and Conservation Division of the Soil Science Society of America.

How vulnerable is New York? A group of researchers and disaster-response experts are gathering for a two-day conference to discuss ways to protect New York City and New York State from another terrorist attack or major disaster.

Oishei grant to support research. A $690,500 grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation will support the research of two UB faculty members on Staphylococcus, a serious and common human infection.

Analyzing mobility in bi-county region. The region’s population is driving more and using public transit less compared to 2001, according to the Regional Institute’s latest Policy Brief.
