Forum on physical plan to be held

Lee recognized by White House

Longtime UB faculty member George Lee recently was honored by the White House for his commitment to mentoring students and boosting the participation of minorities and women in engineering. » Full Story

Buffalo drug begins human trials. An anticancer drug developed by Kinex Pharmaceuticals of Buffalo and UB faculty member David Hangauer has begun clinical testing with patients.

Finalists in nursing dean search. Four finalists have been identified so far for the position of dean of the School of Nursing, including the UB faculty member currently serving as interim dean of the school.

Bringing broad interests to UB. Harvey Palmer says his new position on the UB faculty gives him freedom to pursue his first love when it comes to academic research—exploring the role of public opinion and voting behavior in U.S. and foreign politics.

Helping students to fulfill their potential. The launch this semester of the Undergraduate Academies provides incoming freshmen who share similar goals for their undergraduate careers a place to come together and learn how to best fulfill their personal missions as students.

Improving psychiatric diagnostic tools. A grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation will establish a multidisciplinary task force for ontology-based IT support for large-scale field studies in psychiatry at UB.

‘Rogue economist’ speaks at UB. Best-selling author Steven Levitt, who has made a career tackling unconventional problems using a unique analytical approach, told a UB audience there is power in creative thinking and having the courage to go against the grain.

Appointment, promotion, tenure. UB faculty members and librarians who received tenure or have been promoted from September 2006 to mid-October 2007 will be recognized during a reception tonight in the UB President's Residence on LeBrun Road.

Proposed policies for postdocs. Postdoctoral scholars deserve policies and procedures that support them during their time spent at UB, Marilyn Morris, director of the Office of Postdoctoral Scholars, told the Faculty Senate Executive Committee yesterday.
