UB recovers from surprise storm

Closed from last Friday through Monday as the result of the early fall snowstorm that devastated surrounding communities, UB reopened Tuesday, thanks to a team effort by hundreds of university employees. » Full Story

Edwards to speak at symposium

Former U.S. senator and vice presidential candidate John Edwards will visit UB on Oct. 30 to deliver the keynote address at the Western New York Poverty Symposium. » Full Story

Canadian ambassador to speak. The Hon. Michael H. Wilson, O.C., ambassador of Canada to the United States, will deliver a major address on Wednesday at UB.

Treating post-concussion syndrome. UB sports medicine specialists have developed a new method for treating athletes who sustain post-concussion syndrome that allows them to maintain conditioning while recovering from the injury.

Breaking boundaries. UB faculty member Tony Conrad has spent his career challenging conceptual restrictions with his art.

Donor gives $1.2 million to SOM. An anonymous donor has made a $1.2 million endowment bequest to the School of Management to provide financial help to accounting students.

Project UB WELL. The Division of Student Affairs has been awarded a three-year, $193,793 grant to address suicidal and other harmful behaviors through a comprehensive campus-wide approach to the subject.

Injecting "spin" into silicon. UB theoretical physicist Igor Zutic is finding ways to introduce spintronic properties and a phenomenon called spin injection into silicon.

Situated technologies. Three UB faculty members have organized a symposium in New York City that addresses the topic of embedding, or "situating," computational intelligence in the built environment.

CAS to offer new degree program. A new multidisciplinary graduate program in evolution, ecology and behavior that focuses on the interactions between organisms and their environments over time is being offered this fall by the College of Arts and Sciences.

Neighbors crucial to master plan. UB is firmly embedded in several municipalities whose counsel will be critical to the success of UB's master planning process, the Faculty Senate Executive Committee was told yesterday.
