Gift to train life-sciences workforce

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation has announced a $250,000 gift to UB to create and provide initial support for a program to train entry- and mid-level workers for Western New York's emerging life-sciences industry. » Full Story

Trevisan takes job in Nevada. Maurizio Trevisan, founding dean of the School of Public Health and Health Professions, has been named vice chancellor and chief executive officer of the University of Nevada Health Sciences System.

‘City Lights’ to open film series. "City Lights," generally considered to be Charlie Chaplin's greatest film, will open the 15th edition of the Buffalo Film Seminars.

Older nurses key to staffing shortage. The acute shortage of registered nurses in the United States could be lessened by offering incentives for experienced nurses to stay on the job and enticing nurses who have left the profession back into the market, a new UB study proposes.

RKN adds transportation, land use data. The Regional Institute has expanded its Regional Knowledge Network by adding data and mapping features to its section on Transportation & Land Use.

New coronary imaging cuts costs. A new UB study shows that a newer imaging method called positron emission tomography myocardial perfusion imaging, or PET MPI, provides a more accurate "picture" of coronary obstruction, costs less and reduces the need for follow-up invasive procedures.
