Panel named in law dean search

June in Buffalo. The annual June in Buffalo festival and conference for emerging composers will take place June 4-10 and feature a faculty that includes three Pulitzer Prize winners.

Moderate drinking lowers heart risk. Women who regularly enjoy an alcoholic drink or two have a significantly lower risk of having a nonfatal heart attack than women who are life-time abstainers, UB epidemiologists have shown.

‘City girl’ goes to the Arctic. Geology student Monica Ridgeway is making some groundbreaking changes this week as she leaves Buffalo for a two-week stint conducting research in the Canadian Arctic.

Gum disease linked to tongue cancer. Researchers at UB and Roswell Park Cancer Institute have shown for the first time that an association exists between long-standing periodontitis, or gum disease, and risk of tongue cancer.

DNA alterations in genes. UB cancer epidemiologists have identified specific genes that are most likely to become cancer promoters when exposed to a process called DNA promoter hypermethylation.
