Auerbach receives Javits Award

Learning activities to focus on message. Members of the UB community will have an opportunity to participate in a full slate of activities focusing on the visit to UB of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and the message of peace and nonviolence he will present during his Distinguished Speakers Series lecture.

Food, facts part of Dalai Lama Experience. A sprawling event outside UB Stadium will entertain and educate thousands of those who come to the North Campus on Sept. 19 to hear the Dalai Lama speak.

Alcohol exposure affects brain proteins. UB researchers studying the effects of alcohol on the brain, using zebrafish as a model, have identified several novel central nervous system proteins that are affected by chronic alcohol exposure.

Institute launches policy briefs series. The inaugural issues of a new Institute Policy Brief series, prepared by UB's Institute for Local Governance and Regional Growth, contain key findings on two important regional issues—youth demographics and the binational economy.

Monks to construct sand painting. Tibetan Buddhist monks will construct a mandala sand painting Sept. 16 through 19 in the UB Art Gallery in the Center for the Arts.

Visualizing cars on Main Street. UB's Center for Computational Research is providing Buffalo residents with a real-time visualization of what Main Street would be like if vehicular traffic returns.

Gala to raise scholarship funds. The inaugural University at Buffalo Scholarship Gala will be held on Nov. 4. to raise funds for undergraduate and graduate student scholarships across the university.

CFA announces 2006-07 season. The upcoming season of the Center for the Arts will feature the best in professional dance, theater, comedy, opera, speakers, international companies and concerts.

UB gets go-ahead for assessment. The Faculty Senate Executive Committee yesterday learned that UB has received approval from SUNY regarding its plan to assess mathematics, writing and critical-thinking skills through a process that administers the GRE.
