UB has moved up to No. 10 among 2,700 accredited U.S. universities in international enrollment, according to an annual report released by the Institute of International Education. » Full Story

FSEC supports dissolution of informatics. The Faculty Senate Executive Committee yesterday voted to support a proposal to dissolve the School of Informatics after hearing a report from the senate's Academic Planning Committee that found serious problems in the school.

Brown named interim dean. Jean K. Brown, professor and associate dean of the School of Nursing, was named interim dean of the nursing school Nov. 14 following the resignation due to illness of Mecca S. Cranley.

Mecca Cranley dies at 67. Funeral services were held on Saturday for Mecca S. Cranley, dean of the School of Nursing since 1991, who died on Nov. 20 in the hospice unit at Sister's Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Seeking relief for sinus sufferers. Jens Ponikau's discovery that sinusitis is caused by a reaction to fungus in nasal mucus is leading to the development of a new treatment for the persistent ailment.

UB center sponsors ontology conference. A conference sponsored by the National Center for Ontological Research at UB is bringing together scholars and intelligence experts to discuss how the philosophical field of ontology can be applied to the fields of security and intelligence.

Popular venue for arts scene. The atrium of the Center for the Arts has become a popular venue for local musicians and visual artists through the weekly Music Is Art Live @ The Center program.

Holiday carnival celebrates diversity. The UB community is invited to celebrate all winter holidays on Monday during the first annual UB Holiday Carnival.

Finding a new drug pathway. In their continuing search for promising targets for treating mental disorders, UB neuroscientists have identified a pathway critical to the functioning of antidepressants, antipsychotic drugs and drugs for anxiety disorders.

Update on UB 2020. Two top university administrators recently updated the Professional Staff Senate on academic and infrastructure initiatives as implementation of the UB 2020 strategic planning process continues.

UB Engineering "opens door." Harvey Stenger, the new dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, told local business leaders at a recent "Meet the Dean" breakfast that he maintains an "open door" policy with the local business community.
