Welch is UB's "consummate citizen"

Longtime UB faculty member Claude Welch was the obvious choice to be the university's nominee for the first TIAA-CREF Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing those "who serve others for the greater good." » Full Story

Web access to UB services. The community has a new user-friendly way to learn about UB's local impact and to access the university's services and programs with the new "Your UB" Web site.

UBThisSummer sets lecture series. UB's engagement in local, national and world communities and world interests is the focus of the UBThisSummer Lecture Series 2006: Our Community and Our World.

Calder joins volcano group. Geologist Eliza Calder, who studies volcanoes in Montserrat and Chile, says she joined the UB faculty to work with the university's internationally renowned volcano research group.

Symposium showcases Center of Excellence. UB's New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences will open in June with a full schedule of scientific and community events, including a science and industry symposium featuring world-renowned researchers in the fields of genomics, neuroscience and biomedical informatics.

Examining computing behavior. Faculty member Sheng Zhong looks at economic incentives that motivate computing behavior and how best to manipulate individual computing behavior to benefit users collectively.

Business Partners Day. IBM, state Sen. Dale M. Volker and state Assembly Majority Leader Paul A. Tokasz will be honored at the UB Business Partners Day 2006 luncheon, to be held June 15.

June in Buffalo. June in Buffalo, the internationally renowned festival and conference dedicated to composers that is presented annually by the Department of Music, will be held June 5-10 on the North Campus.

Strange bedfellows in Fronczak. In the lobby of Fronczak Hall, a unique marriage of sorts is taking place through a new "Physics and Arts Exhibition."

New family medicine practice opens. The Department of Family Medicine has opened its fifth outpatient training site, a busy clinic on Jefferson Avenue that serves an urban population at risk.

Engaging adolescents in math. Math will be the subject of the day next week as UB welcomes hundreds of elementary and middle-school students to the North Campus to conduct presentations and participate in individual and team competitions designed to engage area adolescents in math.
