Senate discusses code of conduct

Governance institute moves to law school

The Institute for Local Governance and Regional Growth will be aligned with the UB Law School in a move designed to advance the institute's mission to become one of the nation's premier university-based centers for the study of regions and governments. » Full Story

Medical school launches UBMD. The School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences on Monday launched "UBMD," the brand identity developed for the school's faculty practice plans.

Institute helps to strengthen nonprofits. A program offered by the School of Social Work is providing training to help strengthen the planning and management skills of the staffs of local public and nonprofit agencies.

UB partner in homeland security center. UB and CUBRC will serve as major collaborating partners in a new $15 million Homeland Security Center of Excellence to be established at The Johns Hopkins University.

Innus recognized. UB Vice President and CIO Voldemar Innus has been awarded the Order of the Three Stars, Latvia's highest state award, in recognition of his 15-year effort in developing the Riga Business School.

Unorthodox ideas for economics. New faculty member Julio Elias takes his inspiration from his mentor, Nobel laureate and University of Chicago faculty member Gary Becker, whose work applies economics to unconventional topics.

Faculty receive NYSTAR Awards. Isaac Ehrlich and Vladimir Mitin have received a total of $1.5 million in faculty development grants from the New York State Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research.

Vitamin-radiation link studied. One of the first studies to determine whether antioxidant vitamin and mineral supplements should be taken during radiation therapy is set to begin in the School of Nursing.

100 more "Uncrowned Queens." The third volume of "Uncrowned Queens" has been published, bringing to 300 the number of African-American women whose lives and accomplishments have been documented as part of the project.

Promotions and tenure. UB faculty members and librarians who received tenure or have been promoted since September 2004 were recognized during a reception held on Dec. 1 at the UB President's Residence.

Changes in scheduled operations. A memo to UB employees outlines the university's policy regarding changes in scheduled operations of the campus.
