Tripathi updates UB Council on fall enrollment

Chinese delegation presents gift. Ambassador Liu Biwei, consul general of the People's Republic of China, led a delegation from his New York City office yesterday to present a gift of 500 Chinese texts to the UB Libraries.

Smyth named interim dean. Nancy J. Smyth has been named interim dean of the School of Social Work, effective Aug. 1.

Transmitting physical touch to the virtual world. Researchers from UB's Virtual Reality Lab have developed a "virtual clay" sculpting system that enables users to replicate in real time on a personal computer the physical act of sculpting a block of clay or other malleable material.

Grant to fund cancer vaccine research. A $100,000 grant to UB from the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation will be used for research viewed as key to eventual human clinical trials of a vaccine for fighting existing breast cancer.
